The first report on Ethically Aligned Design can be found here: http://standards.ieee.org/develop/indconn/ec/autonomous_systems.html

A Vision for Prioritizing Human Wellbeing with Artificial Intelligence and Autonomous Systems represents the collective input of over one hundred global thought leaders from academia, science, government and corporate sectors in the fields of Artificial Intelligence, ethics, philosophy, and policy.

Ethically Aligned Design is being created via multiple versions that are being iterated over the course of two to three years. The IEEE Global Initiative is following a specific consensus-building process where members contributing content are proposing candidate recommendations so as not to imply these are final recommendations at this time.

The IEEE Global Initiative for Ethical Considerations in Artificial Intelligence and Autonomous Systems (“The IEEE Global Initiative”) is a program of The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Incorporated (“IEEE”), the world’s largest technical professional organization dedicated to advancing technology for the benefit of humanity with over 400,000 members in more than 160 countries.

The IEEE Global Initiative provides the opportunity to
bring together multiple voices in the Artificial Intelligence and Autonomous Systems communities to identify and find consensus on timely issues.

It was formed with two primary deliverables:

  1. Create a document featuring key issues in Artificial Intelligence and Autonomous Systems (AI/AS) grounded in ethically-aligned design; and,
  1. Make Standards Project recommendations to IEEE-SA based on these issues.

Created as an inclusive, consensus-building program, the mission of The IEEE Global Initiative is to ensure every technologist is educated, trained, and empowered to prioritize ethical considerations in the design and development of autonomous and intelligent systems. The IEEE Global Initiative currently has more than one hundred global experts in AI and ethics as members.

The IEEE Global Initiative is creating a document called Ethically Aligned Design that will be released in December 2016 under a Creative Commons license for any organization to adopt to help prioritize ethically aligned design in AI/AS.

The IEEE Global Initiative is also the primary inspiration behind IEEE P7000™ a Standards Project entitled, Model Process for Addressing Ethical Concerns During System Design that held its first working group meeting in November 2016.
